Monty's Guide for Rooting Miniature Rose Cuttings
1.
Put moistened potting mix in a small plastic container.
(Water plus Monty's Joy Juice).
2. Select a rose where the bloom has
matured (petals are ready to drop).
3. Prune off bloom close to first leaflet.
4a. Cut off the other end of the stem so
that it can be easily enclosed inside the container. (2 and 1/2
to 3") in length.
4b. Remove the terminal (end) leaf from
each leaflet.
5. Using your fingernail pull out 1/4 inch
of the cambium (green covering) layer from the white pith of the
stem.
6. Dip stem in rooting hormone (Rootone)
if available.
7. Shake off excess.
8. Firm potting mix in container and
insert stem.
9. Spray cutting and soiless mix with
water (3 - 4 squirts). Include Monty's Joy Juice.
10. Cover with plastic (Saran Wrap is
best).
11. Secure with rubber band.
12. Place in a window that has good light
and / or sun.
13. No further watering is required.
14. The cutting has rooted when the new
red growth touches the plastic.
15. Remove plastic but do not let the
potting soil dry out. It is now ready for repotting to a larger
container or planted in prepared soil outside.
16. Amend the soil with humus (compost)
and plant the cutting with the roots 4 inches below ground
level. You can fill in the area with soil gradually as the
cutting gets larger. Winter may kill the new plant if the roots
are in shallow ground and it freezes.
