Rose Judging
What do the judges look
for?
Form
The most important factor in
the judging of roses.
When looking down into the bloom the bloom petals
should unfurl in a perfect spiral from a point in the center.
When looking at the side of the bloom you should
see an open bloom that forms a triangle with a high center.
Color
The bloom should have substance or freshness. The hue of
color should represent the characteristic of the variety that
was entered.
Stem and
Foliage
Long straight stem with clean
intact foliage. Remember to clean foliage before entering
specimen. Use a soft cloth or take oil from your forehead
and massage the foliage. Glossy foliage helps to enhance
the look of your specimen.
Balance and
Proportion
The specimen should be
balanced when looking at both bloom and stem. A large
bloom should not be on a short thin stem.
Size
The bigger the hybrid tea the
better and the opposite goes for miniatures.
